Observations

Moving when you weren’t expecting to can be a pain. But there are a few upsides:

1. You have to physically go through all those stacks of books and papers you’ve been meaning to sort… for the past year or so.
2. Based on the number of boxes and their combined weight (calculated for both a downstairs and an upstairs carry) you start making serious decisions in moments about whether to keep this or that item, instead of pondering for a few months about it.
3. You begin to remember your college years, and the benefits then of traveling light… and toss out even more junk.

It’s too bad that because of my class schedule I can’t have a real garage sale. One good thing is that I’ll be consolidating bookcases and replacing other furniture.
