Yeah, I know. It’s been awhile.
Fortunately, it’s been a good sort of busy. Very good.
My second writing sale will be my first one published, it seems.
BenBella Books’ new Smart Pop collection, So Say We All: Collected Thoughts and Opinions on Battlestar Galactica, will be hitting the shelves in late October, and I’ve seen the finished proofs. It’s rather giddy seeing my name on pages of a published book.
I think the other book, Writing Fantasy: The Business End, the Complete Guide to Writing Fantasy from Dragon Moon Press, has been rescheduled for a release date at the end of November, which mean 2 publishing credits in the same calendar year. This is a big step for me, and I’m working to increase that pace for next year.
Since it’s time to move again, it’s time to cull the shelves and storage spaces.
So far, I have a handful of books, cds, and laserdiscs listed for sale at Half.com, and more will be added to the inventory over the next few weeks.
The best way to check the ever-changing inventory is from the link to my Half shop.
I hope you see something you like!
The final edits for my essay, “The Machinery of Love”, have been accepted for BenBella Books’ upcoming Battlestar Galactica Smart Pop collection, So Say We All: Collected Thoughts and Opinions on Battlestar Galactica.
The street date is listed as late October. I am so geeked… two books coming out this fall with essays I’ve written, and this one I’m overjoyed with.

Since Battlestar Galactica won’t be airing new episodes until sometime in October, it’s a damned good thing that the next best show on TV, USA Network’s The 4400, starts airing it’s 3rd Season episodes on Sunday, June 11.
Yes, I know about the 10 BSG webisodes to be produced in the interim, to fill in the time gap between the 2nd season finale and the 3rd season premiere episode. But it’s not the same thing.
Do yourself a favor. Watch the DVD sets for Seasons 1 and 2. If you can’t rent or buy those, check the listings for USA, SciFi Channel, and NBC and try to catch an airing of “The 4400: Unlocking the Secrets” special. Either one will be an excellent way to get caught up on what you missed in Seasons 1 and 2.
Then, set your TiVo to record The 4400 Season 3, starting Sunday June 11. You’ll be glad you did.
The plans for this long/holiday weekend are simple… writing, and watching a mini-marathon of Angel episodes.
Not a bad way to spend a couple days off.
After doing some work on tweaks for a BSG essay, I’m going to play with a new writing application that Evo discovered, called CopyWrite. If it’s even just a teeny bit better than Word, I’ll eventually buy the full version.
I need to find more freelance assignments to complement the days spent massaging people.
This was not a good week for movie viewing for me.
First, I cancelled the premium movie channels off my satellite dish because nothing really worth watching’s been on in months, and the stuff that’s been on that I would watch I already own on DVD.
Second, we caught Mission: Impossible 3 this weekend, and as part of the fun, I bought the 10th Anniversary DVD of the first one. I never had owned it, and the version I picked up only cost $12, and came with a voucher for a free ticket to see the new one, so my thinking was, “What the hell… one of us will get in free, so that’s not a bad deal.”
So we watched the DVD of the first one before heading out to see the third one (the voucher expired today). I can honestly say the first M:I is still an entertaining story, and holds up after 10 years. The story is tight, keeps you guessing, in an almost “Usual Suspects” kind of way, and even today, the idea of watching it again didn’t bore me.

This is going to be a rather busy weekend for me.
I’m going to be splitting my time between being a volunteer therapist at a Pro Beach Volleyball tournament, and being a panelist at the Nebula Awards.
If you’re in Tempe this weekend, stop by and say “Hi”. I’ll be at the tournament Friday and Sunday, and at the Nebulas Saturday morning and early afternoon.
This is going to be a busy convention season for the Farpoint Media folks from The Dragon Page and Slice of SciFi.
We’re going to be doing panels and interviews at the Nebula Awards, which will be in nearby Tempe, fortunately. After that, we’re hopping all over the place.
Westercon and Comic-Con in San Diego in July, Worldcon in Los Angeles in August, Dragon*Con in Atlanta in early September, the Portable Media Expo in Ontario CA at the end of September, and World Fantasy Con in Austin TX in early November.
And those don’t include the smaller local cons that we’ll end up going to, either. I’m not sure if this qualifies us as dedicated or crazy.
But definitely this year, I’ll be staying at the con hotel for WFC… three years running I haven’t done so, and I’ve missed out on some excellent late night bar talk. Not this year!
It’s time to upgrade WordPress again, and since it’s been about a year, it makes sense.
I generally don’t upgrade to the first point zero release that comes out, and in this case, I’m glad I waited. A 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 release came out within two weeks of each other, and since I don’t control the server where my website’s hosted anymore, upgrading via ftp client only is time-consuming, and something I’d rather not have to repeat multiple times in short proximity.
For my next trick, doing the same thing for the Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas blog.
It’s two days later, and I’m still flying high.
Sunday morning, Ginjer Buchanan told me that my story had potential, and she’d be interested in seeing a completed manuscript, when it gets to that stage.
I’ve got some work to do.
